Terms of Use
Last updated:
These terms govern your use of the Kansel mobile apps and the website kansel.app. By installing or using Kansel you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Kansel (“we”, “us”) provides the Kansel apps and this website.
1. The service
Kansel helps you avoid unwanted calls. Users report numbers that make spam calls; once enough trusted reports accumulate, a number is added to a community list. That list is downloaded to your phone, where the operating system uses it to warn you about, or reject, calls from listed numbers.
Kansel is not an emergency service and does not replace the blocking tools of your phone or your mobile operator.
2. Accounts
The app creates an anonymous account the first time you open it. To send a report or to subscribe, you need to sign in with Google or Apple, which links to the same account. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use Kansel, and old enough to enter into a contract in your country to buy a subscription.
3. The free tier
Without paying, you can:
- report spam numbers;
- look up any number inside the app;
- receive caller-ID warnings on calls from suspected and confirmed spam numbers (the call still rings);
- keep a personal block list, whose numbers are always blocked on your device;
- receive updates to the community list.
We may change what the free tier includes. If we remove something significant, we will announce it in the app beforehand.
4. Kansel Pro subscription
Kansel Pro adds automatic rejection of confirmed spam before your phone rings, the option to also reject suspected numbers, and faster list updates.
Prices
- Monthly: EGP 29.99 per month.
- Yearly: EGP 149.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers on the yearly plan.
The price shown in the App Store or Google Play at the time of purchase is the one that applies, including any taxes the store adds. We may change prices for new subscriptions or future renewal periods; the stores will notify you where they require your consent.
Billing and auto-renewal
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), not by us. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. If you start a free trial and do not cancel before it ends, the yearly price is charged when the trial finishes.
Managing and cancelling
You manage and cancel your subscription in the store you bought it from: on iPhone under Settings → your name → Subscriptions, and on Android in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions. After cancelling, Pro remains active until the end of the period you already paid for. Uninstalling the app or deleting your Kansel account does not cancel a subscription.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies, because they process the payment. We cannot issue refunds ourselves. If a store refunds or revokes a purchase, Pro features end.
Activation
Pro features unlock after our server verifies the purchase with the store. A subscription is attached to your Kansel account, so signing in lets you restore it on another device using “Restore subscription”.
5. Acceptable use
The community list only works if reports are honest. You agree not to:
- submit reports you know to be false, or report a number to harass, punish or harm its owner or a competitor;
- create multiple accounts or coordinate with others to push a number onto the list;
- report your own number;
- copy, scrape or redistribute the community list, or use it for marketing, lead generation or any purpose other than protecting yourself from calls;
- probe, overload or interfere with the service, or try to bypass its limits;
- use Kansel in any way that breaks the law.
Reports that turn out to be wrong lower the trust weight of your account, so your future reports count for less. Repeated or malicious abuse can lead to a ban from reporting or to termination of your account.
6. No guarantee of blocking
Kansel reduces spam calls; it cannot eliminate them. We do not guarantee that every spam call will be blocked or flagged: a number that has not been reported yet, or has not reached the confirmation threshold, will get through.
We also do not guarantee that a legitimate call will never be blocked or flagged. The list is built from reports by people and can contain mistakes despite our safeguards. If you are expecting an important call from an unknown number, keep in mind that a listed number may be rejected or flagged. You can always review the numbers on your personal list and, on Pro, turn off rejection of suspected numbers.
7. How listings and appeals work
A number becomes “suspected” and then “confirmed” only after enough distinct, trusted accounts have reported it. Reports from new accounts weigh less, and unusual bursts of reports are held for review before they count. Numbers on our allow list (essential services and verified businesses) are never listed, whatever the reports say.
Anyone who believes a number was listed by mistake can submit the form on the appeal page. We review each appeal. If we accept it, the number is removed from the list within 24 hours and disappears from users' devices with their next list update. We may decline an appeal where the reports are consistent and credible. We never disclose who reported a number.
8. Platform limits
Kansel works through the mechanisms Apple and Google provide, which set limits we cannot change:
- iPhone: you must enable Kansel once under Settings → Apps → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification. iOS always lets calls from numbers saved in your Contacts through, shows blocked calls in Recents, and does not tell Kansel which calls it blocked, so the app cannot show a count of blocked calls.
- Android: Kansel needs to hold the system call-screening role, and Android allows only one app to hold it at a time. Battery-saving features of some manufacturers can delay background list updates.
- On both platforms, the list on your device is only as recent as its last successful update.
9. Intellectual property
The Kansel name, logo, apps, website and the compiled community list belong to Kansel or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial protection from unwanted calls. When you submit a report, you allow us to use it, without compensation, to build and distribute the list.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what data we process. In short: your contacts and call history are never uploaded, and blocking happens on your device.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Kansel is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, including a missed call, a lost business opportunity or a spam call that was not blocked. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid for Kansel Pro in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.
12. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Kansel at any time and delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, abuse the reporting system or put the service or other people at risk. Where reasonable, we will warn you first. Termination does not by itself cancel or refund a store subscription; cancel it in the store.
We may discontinue Kansel or part of it. If we discontinue a paid feature, we will give reasonable notice in the app so you can cancel your renewal.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest revision. If a change is material, we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Kansel after that date means you accept the updated terms.
